Art Deco Australian Silver Plate Grosvenor Delphic Fish Cutlery Setting 6 people. This Art Deco silver plate fish cutlery setting is in very good condition and comes in its original 1940's bespoke box. This is a stylish pattern was produced by Grosvenor, Australia and was a wedding present to my parents in the late 1940's. The pattern, called Delphic, has a border design with a truncated finial. The original box was made for Grosvenor especially for Delphic fish knives and forks by an Australian company whose partial label can be seen to the underside.
The boxes were hand crafted from Australian timbers which are described on the underside as Lid: Walnut, Front: Cypress, Sides and Back Silky Oak. We have seen these special boxes a few times over the years but they are quite rare. There are a few little chips to the top as shown in close up but overall the box presents really well. The inside is lined with fine water wave satin fabric prettily tucked and embroidered and the hinges are made from ribbon. The ribbon is a little frayed but still strong. The silver plate to these pieces is in very good condition with minor scratches from use. There is no corrosion or spots to the plating.
There are a few very small marks and scuffs from gentle usage. The pieces are all marked Grosvenor Delphic EPNS A1, for top of the range silver plate. For Imperial measurement users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.
